Standpoint

STANDPOINT

by Nicola Werenowska

Marek is trying to make Peterborough his home when he meets Julia, a lonely divorcee, in the park. For both of them the park is place to escape from the difficult choices they have made – but when a chance meeting brings them into contact they find themselves expressing truths that the other finds uncomfortable.

“She’s airing the room, stripping the beds, stripping the past”

“He’s dreaming of home, seeing his parents, seeing the garden”

After a very productive development period, funded by Arts Council East’s Escalator programme, and rehearsed readings at The Key Theatre in Peterborough and The Pulse Festival in Ipswich, we are having meetings with venues and putting together a touring pack, with plans for a short tour in 2012, possibly as a site-specific event in parks across the region.

MY NAME IS STEPHEN LUCKWELL

by Nick Wood

Stephen Luckwell is an autistic teenager with an enquiring mind. His teacher, Claire, helps him through the daily activities which present him with enormous challenges, from deciphering phrases such as "I was miles away" or "I wouldn't want to be in your shoes", to understanding private jokes and other people's expressions.

It's the day of the regional heats of the Young Artists' competition and Stephen is preparing how to behave. If he's properly prepared he can behave appropriately. Claire also has some huge life changes in store, but she's not quite so prepared as Stephen.

This piece started as a monologue in HOUSE, then became a full length two-hander for Nottingham Playhouse, and then was picked up and developed as an afternoon play for Radio 4. This is another project we are pitching to venues for a studio tour.

A new stage production of My Name is Stephen Luckwell, using digital fiction technology, will tour as a co-production with Nottingham Playhouse in 2012/13.

VIVACITY @ Flag Fen and City Museum

VIVACITY @ FLAG FEN & CITY MUSEUM

Following the success of A Workhouse Christmas we are researching material for two new projects in partnership with Vivacity, Peterborough’s sports and cultural trust at Flag Fen and at the City Museum.

Flag Fen is a unique Bronze Age site with a dramatic landscape and unique atmosphere which could inspire many a mystery writer, and the City Museum is currently undergoing a major redevelopment which is uncovering some of its forgotten past, much of which is good and gory!

As with A Workhouse Christmas, it is expected that both these projects will involve community performers working alongside professional actors – sign up to our mailing list to be kept informed.

COMMUNITY & EDUCATION PROJECTS

COMMUNITY & EDUCATION PROJECTS

Kate is currently planning a cross-generational project with schools and elders for Eastern Angles in partnership with Crossed Keys Homes, Jack Hunt School, Thomas Deacon Academy, Ormiston Bushfield Academy and Arthur Mellows Village College. We have also been approached to create a project for the Connected Communities strand of the RSA project, Citizen Power.
